Meet our Management Team

President & CTO

John Carter

Accomplished executive and technology thought leader with unparalleled proficiency in strategic planning, horizon technologies and entrepreneurial endeavors.

John is a former NASA engineer, security industry veteran, and system architect for solutions spanning federal and commercial applications. After starting at NASA, John spent 5 years serving on the SIA Board of Directors and chairing the Homeland Security Advisory Group, leading it to become a SIA Executive Committee. Following 9/11, John participated in Federal “Go Teams” to establish new guidelines and define new technologies for federal security. ReconaSense is based on John’s 7th generation of Access Control technology and is architected to dominate the future of physical security.

Kevin Kolego

Innovative executive with a proven record of leading organizational growth & business operations, improving processes and business tools to drive revenue, improving efficiency, and increasing market share.

Kevin holds a BS in Economics from the United States Naval Academy and a Master’s in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. With over 20 years in the military and 10 years in the security industry, Kevin is an experienced executive in defense, security, and software.

Before Recon, Kevin managed Aerospace and Defense for Stanley, Black & Decker, working with commercial and defense industrial base clients. He held senior leadership roles with SBD in business development, sales, and operations. Before SBD, Kevin worked for Stanley Security, a manufacturer of access control, security, and hardware as Government BD Senior Manager. Before Stanley Security, he worked as a government civilian with the US Army while serving as a Reservist in the US Navy. Kevin became a GS-15 and Director of C4ISR in the Army, where he worked in advanced technology communications and network programs. Kevin retired from the US Navy after 12 years of Active Duty and 12 Years in the Reserves, holding the rank of Commander.

With over 20 years of marketing experience in advertising, project management, event logistics, graphic design, and public relations, Shana McCoy has been the driving force behind ReconaSense's Marketing initiatives for the past six years.

With over 20 years of marketing experience in advertising, project management, event logistics, graphic design, and public relations, Shana McCoy has been the driving force behind ReconaSense's Marketing initiatives for the past six years. With an education background in the arts, Shana has a natural eye for creative communication and has carved a reputation as an astutely proactive problem solver adding an innovative approach to every workflow and hurdle. Her passion for the ReconaSense team's success always drives her to expand her knowledge to implement better ways of supporting their processes. Before joining the ReconaSense team, Shana honed her marketing skills at Ford Audio-Video Systems, recognized as one of the top audio-video integrators in the nation, and the Austin American Statesman newspaper.

Clayton Brown

Clayton is helping the next-generation of security practitioners solve important issues surrounding data interoperability, access control and artificial intelligence.

As co-founder of ReconaSense, Clayton is helping the next-generation of security practitioners solve important issues surrounding data interoperability, access control and artificial intelligence. Since graduating from Southern Methodist University and discovering physical security’s need for intelligent security management, Brown has been identifying technology and corporate partners to make his vision of proactive security a reality. As a member of the SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board, Clayton balances privacy concerns and the strategic value of new technologies to help practitioners achieve current security objectives while preparing for future ones.

Sherinda Barrow

Sherinda Barrow has shown an unwavering passion for increasing her industry knowledge and passing that learning down to educate, train, and mentor her peers.

A proven expert in her field, Sherinda holds a bachelor of Science in Security degree and certifications in Enterprise Security Management, System Engineer ICAM PACS (CSEIP) class, HID PKI/PIV, Allegion SE280 – AD400 Lock Series, and Milestone Professional, Advanced and Train-the-Trainer programs.

Jeff Brown

Leading ReconaSense sister company Smarter Security, Jeff has propelled the company to a leader in the physical security industry, recognized by Inc. magazine six times as one of the fastest-growing privately held companies in America.

Jeff has led ReconaSense sister company Smarter Security since 2002. He propelled the company into a consistent industry leader, recognized by Inc. magazine as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in America for six years. Under Jeff’s leadership, Smarter Security has become widely known for marketing the industry’s best technology backed by unsurpassed customer support. Jeff and his team are incredibly proud to secure many of the world’s most iconic buildings.

Steven Barberena

Versatile Software Developer, Configuration Manager, Installation Developer, Team Lead, System Integration Engineer, and Software Engineer Manager with many years of experience.

Steven graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He began his career working for Tiburon, a Public Safety Software Company, developing message switches and integration software for 911 Dispatch Centers all over the United States. During his tenure, one of his most memorable events is when he helped police officers locate and recover a missing child who was lost for over 36 hours. At Tiburon, Steven managed several teams and engineering projects. Steven joined ReconaSense in October 2016 and has been instrumental in developing the ReconaSense applications, including several integration software packages, installers, along with processes for software configuration management.

ADVISORY BOARD

Ken Eickmann, Lt. General

Lieutenant General Kenneth Eickmann has served in a number of leadership positions in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a commander at Aeronautical Systems Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, in Ohio. There he led the Air Force’s center of excellence for research, development and acquisition of aircraft, aeronautical equipment and munitions. General Eickmann also served as commander at Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, the largest military and industrial complex in the Department of Defense. Today he serves on a number of boards and is Deputy Director, Center for Energy Security at University of Texas.

Al Gold

Al is a widely known and respected security industry executive who has led sales teams to great success over several decades.
Among other roles, Al was Senior Vice President for Ultrak where he led International CCTV Sales as well as national accounts. During his tenure he drove tremendous growth in the company’s long global relationship with Walmart. Since 2002 he has been a global mergers & acquisitions consultant focused primarily on the security industry.

Steve Lindsey

Steve Lindsey, CPP, is a security and loss prevention industry expert. He developed his expertise serving in several Security and Loss Prevention roles during his 35-year career at Walmart Stores, Inc. Steve started his career by leading multiple regions within the Walmart Stores Division. He continued his career leading the Sam’s Club Loss Prevention Division, Walmart Homeland Security, Walmart Security Technology and Global Security Services, a division of Walmart with over 300 team members.

James Treybig

Jimmy was Tandem Computer’s principal Founder and served as CEO from 1974 to 1996. Under his leadership, Tandem was ranked by Inc. magazine as the fastest growing public company is America in 1980. Jimmy was recognized by UPSIDE Magazine as one of the “100 People Who Changed Our World” and by Silicon Valley’s Software Development Forum for its “2002 Visionaries – Silicon Valley Pioneers.” He was honored for his support of entrepreneurship as a 2008 Austin Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient. Jimmy received the Entrepreneur of the Year awards from both Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard Graduate School of Business. Based in Austin, Texas, Jimmy is currently a Venture Partner with NEA, working closely with their information technology practice sourcing new deals and evaluating new investment opportunities. Current board memberships include TabbedOut, eRelevance and Network Kinetix.
